BioNorthTX Breakfast Forum at UT Arlington

Researchers at University of Texas, Arlington are at the forefront of discovery, working to solve the world’s most urgent challenges and turning ideas into products and systems that benefit society. Their explorations range from battling serious diseases like cancer and diabetes to devising novel methods of ensuring cleaner energy, air, and water.
President Vistasp Karbhari will open up our morning. A visionary leader and accomplished scholar, Vistasp M. Karbhari took office in June 2013 as the eighth president of The University of Texas at Arlington. He is committed to advancing UT Arlington’s national and international profile while strengthening excellence in research and teaching and ensuring the success of the University’s more than 48,000 students in Texas and around the world.
Anne Bavier, Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation – Anne is a nationally recognized health care leader who has held posts at top-ranked universities and at the National Institutes of Health. Prior to being appointed dean of the UT Arlington College of Nursing and Health Innovation in April 2014, she was dean of the University of Connecticut School of Nursing and dean of nursing at Saint Xavier University in Chicago.
Khosrow Behbehani, Dean of Engineering – Khosrow served as Chair of the Bioengineering Department at UT Arlington from 2002 until his present appointment. Behbehani’s research has focused on the development of medical devices and processes for pulmonary health care. He is an inventor on nine U.S. patents.
Dr. Joe Barrera, Director of the Shimadzu Institute for Research Technologies – Dr. Barrera, who has extensive experience in laboratory research, was named the new director of the University’s Shimadzu Institute for Research Technologies in 2013. The Shimadzu Institute is the result of a $25.2 million corporate donation. Dr. Barrera was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern and earned a doctorate in 2009 from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Mickey McCabe, Executive Director, the UTA Research Institute, Mickey has provided leadership for various research organizations for more than 30 years in both the university and industrial arenas. He has been a leader in creating technology-based economic development resulting from successful R&D programs. His technical experience and background are in the areas of polymers, fibers and composite systems. Prior to UTARI, Mickey was Vice President for Research and Executive Director of the Research Institute at the University of Dayton.
Each BioNorthTX Breakfast Forum event will serve to bring together the life science industry for networking and collaboration and to learn about the rich assets available in North Texas. Attendees will include life science executives, academic researchers and key opinion leaders, capital resources, and service providers.
Continental breakfast will be served.
